For me it was documentation: I don't mind having to look things up with a new system but there does need to be a clear place to look the current things up. Instead I had to resort to Google which pointed to out of date solutions and package-names. Reducing everything to 'pin the tail on the donkey' for me and impeding me getting the system I want. And I love the idea behind it and the programs only available within X directory encapsulation but for me the docs just weren't clear enough when I tried. I should try again. :-/
