Siblings Sentenced for $4M Stanford University Laptops Theft
- paulpauper 5y agomisleading title. it was many thefts. $4 million for a single laptop seems a tad excessive unless we're talking maybe a CIA or NSA laptop
- boeingUH60 5y agoEdited to indicate "laptops" :)
- prirun 5y agoThis is similar to the recent Yale scandal, where an employee authorized to spend $10K without approval actually spent $40M on laptops. These schools must have terrible (or no) accounting controls. I worked at a secondary school district, and believe me, no one is ordering a single laptop that isn't authorized, let alone millions of dollars worth. Maybe instead of hiring high-paid administrators that sit around doing nothing, they should hire an accounting staff for internal controls.
