I don't understand this. Billionaire Theil, one of the perps who robbed these young men of their future, is now funding a misdirection of their understandable anger onto some bizarre confection of an imaginary elite.
And they go along with it.
For the lulz.
- cinntaile 5y agoHow did Thiel rob them of their futures? What was their future supposed to look like?
- smackeyacky 5y agoIf you read the article, they want things like traditional families with a single breadwinner like the 1970s, something that gradually became impossible in the developed countries as social democracy was abandoned in favour of neo liberalism. We have seen the damage wrought by the trickle down economics of our real elite: kids who will never own a home, working multiple insecure jobs etc. Billionaires dismantled our society, not some shadowy cabal of "liberal" professors.
- Proven 5y ago> something that gradually became impossible in the developed countries as social democracy was abandoned in favour of neo liberalism wut??? what made it impossible was creeping socialism everywhere: eternally growing warfare and welfare state manged by the Uniparty. > Billionaires dismantled our society, not some shadowy cabal of "liberal" professors. socialist professors are one of the groups that robs people of their future. for some reason people still like to pay to become damaged, which indicates that robbery begins at an early age - in state schools and at home.
- smackeyacky 5y agoSocialist professors literally have no power. Lobbyists do. Reduced taxes on corporations, starve the beast mentality from mendacious politicians. The american experiment will finish with actual fascism now. Good luck surviving that.
- cato_the_elder 5y agoOf course they have clout. They are the omniscience "experts" you hear about everywhere. But probably not as much as the rest of the blob (like woke journalists and corporations). The blob has soft power, and they aren't using it well. Soft despotism [1] is still despotism. [1]: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soft_despotism https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soft_despotism
- smackeyacky 5y agoYou will need more examples of the power of this socialist blob. Zero examples isn't enough.
- s1artibartfast 5y agoIt is pretty easy to explain this perplexing phenomenon if you acknowledge that these people dont share your opinions on neo-liberalism as the source of all of society's ills.
- FooBarBizBazz 5y agoI think they are strongly opposed to neoliberalism, as you can see by their (confusing to the Fox/CNN generation) slogans like "Medicare for all, abortions for none". The big question is how much of this is just for show.
- smackeyacky 5y agoIt's hard to tell. The article seems to indicate some of it is for show, aka the online edgelord persona is now out in society. Some of it seems like cosplaying fascists to be part of an in group. The trouble with that is the same thing that happened with TheDonald at reddit. Its all fun and games until your jolly japes get taken seriously. I'm positive nobody wants a speedrun of Germany 1933 but Thiel seems to think he can foster and control these useful idiots. History says once you let the racism and hatred out of the bag, lots of people die before it is back under control again.
- hemreldop 5y agoI think it makes sense. Women go back to the kitchen and men get paid more since there are fewer candidates for the same jobs. On the other side since the mother stays at home, kids are raised well.
- smackeyacky 5y agoHave you asked any women how they feel about that?
- midislack 5y agoThe shadowy cabal of liberal professors (all lefties are liberals now, progressive stack can not be violated) was quite open about their plans for the future. Interestingly they work hand in hand with billionaires. Look how academics fawn over Bill Gates.
- the_only_law 5y agoAnd don’t forget the Illuminati.
- cato_the_elder 5y agoWell, Illuminati did actually exist. [1] [1]: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illuminati https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illuminati

- cinntaile 5y agoI don't get what this has to do with Thiel. He was born in 1967 so his influence on what happened in the 70s, 80s and even 90s should be pretty limited.
- cato_the_elder 5y agoThese rather perplexing remarks will transpire into something more comprehensible if we consider them as a poorly executed ad hominem against Thiel.
- hnusersarelame 5y agoThey hate and advocate against the rights of homosexuals even though Peter Thiel is gay. There’s no point in trying to understand their “logic”, it’s just dumb and cringe.
- cato_the_elder 5y agoSince you are an HN user yourself, I suppose you support having hiring quotas for HN users?
- smackeyacky 5y agoHow about a religious requirement? Should that be a feature of HN too?
- cato_the_elder 5y agoI'm honestly not sure what you are referring to.
