I understand the thinking behind it. But I personally prefer following a strict priority list. In this case, whatever was finished at each monthly milestone would be part of that milestone release. The only choice remaining is how to prioritise features. Having a good balance of onboarding, bug fixes, cleanups, and new features seems to work well. The result is that there is something valuable for everybody in each release.
