Not much for exactly this reason. Some fiction is more poetic and dialogue-y or emotional so it's fine. I loved Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance. I never understood the descriptions of environment or anything. I'm just reading the words aloud to myself in my head and not seeing it so it's kinda a waste.
