CAD in Blender Is Here - CAD Sketcher Constraint Driven Design [video]
- contingencies 5y agoThis would have been way quicker in OpenSCAD. Blender is already great in terms of theoretical features, speed, cross-platform. However, IMHO whenever you reach a real world professional use case lying outside of animation or basic modeling (eg. architecture, CAD, CAM, etc.) its interfaces to industry standard file formats are without exception somewhere between poor to nonexistant. When I say industry standard I mean things like DWG, DXF, elevation diagrams in PDF, whatever. The main effort to resolve this I am aware of is BlenderBIM https://blenderbim.org/features.html https://blenderbim.org/features.html which uses IfcOpenShell https://github.com/IfcOpenShell/IfcOpenShell/ https://github.com/IfcOpenShell/IfcOpenShell/ for vector and drawing output and would definitely be the right place for the developer of this extension to look for allies in building out export-to-drawing support.
- MrLeap 5y agoUnless something crazy happens whatever blender is missing will probably be there eventually. It's a big ol' self improving battleship now.
- brianhorakh 5y agoI came here to say this. Openscad is awesome but not enough cad people know about it and the community is fragmented and stagnent.
- iseanstevens 5y agoAlso, not being able to do simple things like fillets easily limits real world use of openSCAD for 3d printing
