I commiserate, up until last year I was in Comcast monopoly land as well, paid top dollar for the "1.2Gbps" plus $30 to remove the 1Tb data cap. Luckily we got Ziply FiOS installed and I'm in heaven; I'm paying $60 ($80 after a year) for 1Gbps symmetric. They also have a 2-Gig ($120/mo) and 5-Gig ($300/mo); I'm waiting for those to drop in price and I'll definitely jump on-board (most of my home network is on 2.5GbE with a few 1Gb segments).
