I would argue against his theory of a vibe-shift in web design post-2015. I certainly remember during 2007-2013 that there were enormous amounts of sites using illustrations in a very similar way to how they are now. In fact, I would go as far as to say there are way more sites using full-bleed "hero" photographs now than there were then.
