I'm not a network guy, so apologies for the stupid question, but what is the patch panel for in this setup? It doesn't really look like it has a purpose from my view.
- zrail 4y agoIt looks nice but it's not necessary. Typically in a setup like this, where you have network equipment with ports on the front and other stuff with ports on the back, you'll want either a patch panel or a 1U brush-style passthrough to make the cable runs nicer.
- xuki 4y agoPatch panel is where your cable run terminates. Since that part is more expensive to fix, you don't want to touch it. The only moving part is a small cable from your switch to patch panel.
- rhinoceraptor 4y agoFor network devices around the house, for example PoE cameras, wifi access points, or wall plate jacks. The patch panel is a clean way to terminate those cables in the rack.
