Ask HN: What are some communities bringing non-tech folks into tech?
There is a growing movement of people from non-traditional backgrounds entering tech.
I would like to support communities/initiatives helping people receive the resources they need to succeed in tech.

- version_five 4y agoI think that any topic on the "hype cycle" list brings non-technical people in to try and sell it. You could say the same thing about quantum computing or digital twins or chatbots or whatever. Crypto is only special because of what a scam it is. Maybe I'd ask the OP, what does it mean to bring non-technical people into tech? Like teaching people to code, or become data scientists or something, or like applying some soft skills to tech, like AI ethics or sales. Or some other thing?
- shreythecray 4y agoAt this point, through teaching people. I want to connect with people who want to learn coding with the goal to enter the tech industry.
- danamit 4y agoI think associations in developing countries, that's how I got into tech, I am curious how would you support? financial support or volunteering?
- shreythecray 4y agoI founded a tech education non-profit where we build free and open source coding bootcamps (bitproject.org) and want to make sure that our resources are being distributed to people who will benefit from them the most i.e. to respond to your question - both financial and volunteering.
- danamit 4y agoLooks nice. I am intending to do something similar locally (in a year or so), I will reach out if I need the help from your network (just an occasional talk from a tech worker would help a lot confidence-wise). I did check the coding bootcamps, and they seem more advanced than what I am intending to teach, since my primary motive is introducing teens to coding and hopefully some of them will keep up.
- shreythecray 4y agoThat's awesome! We do have some prep programs but I would love to get your thoughts on how we can make our programs more beginner friendly.
