Jeff Bezos is worth $160bn – yet Congress might bail out his space company
- sbinthree 4y agoAs a hardcore capitalist, I do not understand why the government gives companies money under any circumstances. The government should provide fast business courts (like Delaware), decharter any company that abuses their market power, price in externalities like pollution and otherwise never give money to companies.
- verdverm 4y agoIn the US, the government cannot produce things. Obviously they need things to operate, so they must buy them. Roads, rockets, and pencils all fall under this
- wmf 4y agoBernie's wrong about everything here. SpaceX is far cheaper and faster than NASA internal development. NASA wanted two moon landers all along, so awarding two contracts is hardly a bailout. Tourists who visit the ISS pay NASA; they aren't subsidized by NASA. He'd be better off encouraging privatization and clawing back some of the resulting profits via higher taxes.
