Russian submarines launch cruise missiles at Ukraine from Black Sea
- PaulHoule 5y agoOuch. Ukraine is equipped to take out surface ships with missiles https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R-360_Neptune https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R-360_Neptune but not equipped for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-submarine_warfare https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-submarine_warfare particularly since Ukraine's Black Sea fleet is sunk.
- rektide 5y ago"Strong cirumstantial evidence" of a Tomahawk-class missile being used. I know Russia already spent the money, and that eventually all gear goes past it's live-by date. Still it feels like a huge expense. Tomahawk missiles supposedly were $0.25million/piece. Especially with new chip-supply issues & a risk of being unable to refill, it's hard to imagine what they see they're getting from this. Somewhere in here is a: expensive submarines, the real sunk-cost fallacy (and it's impact on world stability) joke.
- PaulHoule 5y agoTomahawks are more like $1.8 million a piece these days. They do nowhere near $1.8 million of damage so the price is too damn high.
