What open source e-commerce platform would you recommend?
I need to have an e-commerce site within 3 days, what platform would you recommend to use? Would be helpful to list the advantages & cons of each .
- emteycz 4y agoWooCommerce, because everyone else uses it.
- M_Moonshine_cc 4y agoOnly if you see no other way than to use Wordpress as a base.
- emteycz 4y agoI am not aware of any other OSS ecommerce software as well supported as Woocommerce - and you never want to depend on something with not-good support with your business.
- monsieurpapa 4y agoThanks, Do I need a WordPress site prior to using WooCommerce?
- emteycz 4y agoYes, WooCommerce is a plugin for WordPress.
- mailatpriyank 4y agoShopify Pro - Slick UI - Solid backend to manage products - Good plugin support with other e-commerce giant like Amazon, eBay - Good community support - Flexible store customization with good range of theme - Easy to manage even for even non-IT person(Taking about backend process like product listing, shipment generation etc...)
- M_Moonshine_cc 4y agoThat's NOT an open source e-commerce platform!
- monsieurpapa 4y agoThat’s what I thought too
- alabhyajindal 4y agoHave you looked into Medusa? I haven't used it but it's highly rated and has good reviews.

- eastbayjake 4y agoDepending on your needs, NextJS Commerce (Vercel) storefront + Vendure backend is a full-stack JavaScript fully-OSS option for this. It's basically ready-to-go if you have a B2C/Retail "sneaker store" type use case selling a handful of products, they have a blessed integration + demo for using Vendure but you could swap out for another backend if you liked. https://github.com/vercel/commerce https://github.com/vercel/commerce
- monsieurpapa 4y agoThank you for sharing . Packed Coffee (in 250g, 500g and 1kg) is the product I’m trying to build for . Is versed the best choice for this in your view?
- eastbayjake 4y agoIf you have 3 products and <100 active orders (e.g., need to be fulfilled / tracked at any given time) then you're in a nice spot for Vendure as an eCommerce backend
- theyknowitsxmas 4y agoNotepad, GitHub Pages, PayPal
- monsieurpapa 4y agoI didn’t know GitHub pages can do e-commerce!

- fpdavis 4y agonopCommerce - Open Source but with commercial support, good community, paid and free plugins in the marketplace. Lots of options.
- grandpoobah 4y agoWooCommerce hosted on a dedicated platform such as Cloudways. It's incredibly extensible, and has a thriving third-party addon ecosystem. NopCommerce has spent the last 5-10 years pouring most of its development resources into keeping up with the ever-changing .net ecosystem. You can imagine what a code base is like when the framework it's built upon is being swapped out every one to 2 years. Its third-party ecosystem is sorely lacking. The schema it uses for product attribute combinations is brittle and poorly designed, making fine-grained discounting and reporting almost impossible, among other things. Redirection style payment methods will leave you with an empty shopping cart if you return to the site before completing payment (eg, to verify your cart's contents). I've reported easily reproducible bugs and the devs simply refuse to fix them (such as double discounting for associated products), seemingly due to them not taking the issue seriously or failing to understand the issue. tldr - NopCommerce sucks.
