What Happened to Chat Bots?

There was so much hype some years back. Yet, I have not seen one good implementation of a proper chat bot out in the wild. Does anyone have an example of a great chatbot? In fact I see that many web sites now have "chatbots" which don't even allow the customer to chat. They can just click and select an option. https://twitter.com/nutanc/status/1517392323784572928
