Most of these problems aren't a "Cars doing something wrong" or "Cyclist doing something wrong" problem. They are usually issues with terrible infrastructure. However, there are systems that would prevent this that are currently in use.

- bell-cot 5y agoOne more feature that Freightliner needs to add, based on my own commute - scanning nearby bike lanes for maintenance failures (potholes, broken pavement, large or deep debris, plowed-up snow, flooding, missing storm drain grates, in-your-face branches, etc.) which would make those unsafe to use - regardless of motor vehicle presence or behavior. And automatically updating some sort of "Safe2Cycle.org" web site with that information. Cynical Objective: Make it harder for my local politicians to loudly take credit for "Gold" bike-friendly infrastructure, while actually delivering a system that almost no cyclists seem willing to risk using.
