Don’t scale: 99.999% uptime is for Wal-Mart (2005)
- netsharc 4y ago> Now what if Delicious, Feedster, or Technorati goes down for 30 minutes? How big is the inconvenience of not being able to get to your tagged bookmarks or do yet another ego-search with Feedster or Technorati for 30 minutes? Not that high. The world does not come to an end. Haha, seems like these services have been down for many years now, and can confirm, the world didn't end.
- simulate-me 4y agoThere is always an underlying assumption that making something scalable and making something quickly are mutually exclusive. As tools and libraries get better, I hope these two things can exist together. Scalable things should be able to be written just as quickly as anything else. Take DynamoDB as an example. Very quick to set up and use. Also very scalable.
