I wonder if he's hoping to delay the process long enough that a future president might pre-emptively pardon him or just drop the extradition request. It's strange to think that after all these years he would then be a free man, without ever standing trial in the US or Sweden.
For comparison, Manning served less than 7 years, while Assange has been under "house arrest" (in the Ecuadorian embassy) or in prison for nearly 10 years.
- raxxorraxor 5y agoI think the whole ordeal is a pretty large embarrassment for the UK and also the US. If they convict him it would just further damage their reputation. Maybe Putin or Jong-un would admire these actions but the damage is done. The UK and US target whistleblowers that make war crimes public. Even if it was long gone governments, it will stick to them. And justifiably so. That Assange should just have faced authorities for get a fair trial is a bad myth and propaganda.
