Microsoft disables SMB1 file-sharing protocol by default in Windows 11 Home
- thesuperbigfrog 5y ago"Microsoft next will be removing the SMB1 binaries, and that both Windows and Windows Server will no longer include the drivers and DLLs of SMB1. Microsoft will provide an out-of-band, unsupported install package for users that still need to connect to old factory machinery, medical gear, consumer NAS and other equipment that still requires SMB1, however." It's good for security, but bad for backward compatibility.
- MaxikCZ 5y agoI work in enviroment where I rutinely have to connect to computers and access them over SMB1. On Windows 10 theres this new issue where its asking for username/password even for shares that have no password set, so theres no combination of username/password to grant me access. The only way to get around it (after many hours of googling) was to create new local user (on my win 10 client machine), and accessing the share works perfectly from there (as it did in windows 7). Still havent figured why or how this works, but yes: I am stuck with two account on my PC, one specifically just for accessing open SMB1 shares.
