Ads Are Coming to Netflix
- matheusmoreira 5y agoYeah, exactly as predicted. It's always a matter of time before people put ads into everything because doing otherwise is leaving money on the table. If this happens, I'm done. I refuse to pay to see ads.
- version_five 5y agoNetflix has lots or smart people, and I didn't pay any attention in strategy class so I assume they have thought about this better than me. But it seems like offering an ad-driven product, even if you, for the time being, let people pay to not have ads, is signaling a low-end, commodity positioning on the market. Maybe that is where Netflix thinks they can make the most money, to be the walmart of streaming, presumably battling it out with amazon for that title. What I'm interested in is how the higher end landscape gets affected. It would be great to see more choice, or more good offerings, in the upmarket space, away from any flirting with the ad-driven hellscape that has swept over the rest of the internet. Netflix going all in on low-end maybe opens the door for more high-end
- kurupt213 5y agoDon’t the higher end options already have tiered options. I think HBO Max has tiered options including discounted with ads.
- kurupt213 5y agoI’m ok with 4.99 + ads or free with delayed access to premium content
- Andaith 5y agoI'm cool with the suggestions in other comments like a cheaper tier that is ad-supported, but realistically, this is where I'm at: 1) Netflix is barely worth what I'm already paying, and any price increases will probably make me cancel. 2) If I see adverts with what I'm currently paying, I'm going to cancel. To me, Netflix needs to provide more value to me, as it's already on the brink.
- nojito 5y agoNetflix has always been a bubble. They simply can not compete with regards to content compared to traditional media. It was only a matter of time before the Disneys etc. created their own platforms and cash in decades of goodwill from their customers.
- pajko 5y agoThis is the perfect way to loose another 200k subscribers... or more.
