Why are bogus warnings appearing under tweets? (2020)
Tweet in question: https://twitter.com/29notions/status/1313600611947028486
I'm curious as to why this tweet has a warning under it saying "Joe Biden did not introduce a man in blackface" despite the tweet content being totally irrelevant. This user seems to be testing twitter features and gaming the system intentionally since they have other tweets with irrelevant warnings attached ([1], [2]). Why are they able to do this?

- jaredandrews 5y agoI remember seeing meme pages doing this on IG when they introduced the covid warnings. Sometimes, when you would screenshot the seemingly innocuous image and mess with it's contrast etc, you could see they hid words like "covid" or whatever in the image that could only be seen by the image scanners. I don't see anything in this image. I supposeeee, the picture of 4 teletubbies vaguely looks like the meme featured in this article: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/biden-jerome-powell/ https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/biden-jerome-powell/ So maybe it's because of that. I have no idea how you would reverse engineer that the teletubbies would trigger the warning tho.
- sitzkrieg 5y agowhy are they able to do that? it's their site, they can do whatever they want with it
- detachedhead 5y ago"They" was referring to the twitter users somehow exploiting this bug/feature, not the company itself
- aaaaaaaaata 5y agoRight, 29notions seems to have a clue what the filter list contains.
- sitzkrieg 5y agoi see thank you
- jdrc 5y agoprobably a twitter employee manufacturing the truth
- aaaaaaaaata 5y agoI got MISLEADING: "Hitler holding a Bible is photoshopped" on the first, and MISLEADING: "Some votes may still need to be counted" on the second.
- shantnutiwari 5y agoThe tweet(s) are from 2020- so Im not sure they're relevant now? All it shows is Twitter had a bug 2 years ago-- are there any recent examples?
- adamrezich 5y agoit's a different issue but sometimes I see quote tweets made by accounts I follow on my timeline where the quoted tweet shows up as "unavailable" (can't recall the exact message) in the UI, but following the link to the tweet shows that it is totally in fact available.
- detachedhead 5y agoYou're right, and I haven't seen any recent examples so they probably fixed it, just curious to know what was triggering these warnings
