Why can't both be correct? Genesis 2 puts them first because they are the most important creation, Genesis 1 puts them in chronological order.
If one of them was not correct nobody would have put them in the same bible.
- MisterBastahrd 5y agoNeither of them are correct. Genesis is a synthesis of the mythology of the region. The meaning is vastly more important than the message.

People put these stories in the Bible because of their story and meaning, not because of any kind of historical correctness. (Because how could they know?)
