The former CEO of Reddit would like you all to stop bickering online
- incomingpain 5y ago>It's not that the principle is no longer valid (it is), it's that the practical issues around upholding that principle are different, because the world has changed. I think this is where we differ and don't follow after. The world hasnt changed. It's curious. Liveleak no longer exists because: "The world has changed a lot over these last few years, the Internet alongside it, and we as people," said Hewitt. Its not like liveleak and gore went away... virtually all the 'cherry bomb blew up in his hand' or 'ukraine soldier stabs russian pow in brain' are simply on reddit now. The world hasn't changed at all. Its not like 'we are better people and above this' this shit hits reddit front page all the time. Beforehand it was about his political opponents the republicans who were censoring free speech. "porn and video games" They saw themselves as the victims and fighting against those republicans. Then "the world changed" They started to become the ones who started censoring and the republicans became pro-free speech. They rationalize this censorship as the 'world changing' but absolutely nothing changed. >Both sides think the platform is institutionally biased against them. You just admitted the problem. Censorship is hard and misapplied constantly. You argue here for no censorship at all. In reality you admit to your own failure, the correct move would have been to stop your censorship. >The internet is not a "frontier" where people can go "to be free," it's where the entire world is now, and every culture war is being fought on it. The culture war is over. It ended in 2015 at latest and we know who won. Now that we moved past the culture war, it will result in real war. This will happen in the next couple years. Elon is trying to prevent this.
