Back to the Future of Twitter
- cloutchaser 4y agoThis is the only way a blockchain based social network could work, and it would be interesting if Twitter somehow did that in the future. The only way you can have both censorship free content, but also various levels of moderation as selected by entrepreneurs or users, is to have permanent records of everything but then build filters on top of it. Of course you’d have to be ok with the blockchain storing everything from child porn to gore to spam potentially. What many people also miss is that teams or entrepreneurs are needed to create good user facing products. Linux is good for B2B but will never be able to compete with apple for end users, because distributed development just doesn’t work for that. So for any social network you need a team or an entrepreneur too. What Ben is talking about is that, competing apps built for the Twitter protocol. I run a small social network and I’ve had quite a few disagreements about blockchain based networks, they can’t work by themselves.
- chx 4y agoLet's be very very clear here: blockchains are an ecological disaster and since they have zero use cases nothing justifies their existence.
- cloutchaser 4y agoLet be very clear: you have no idea what blockchain means in this context. You are talking about Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies, I’m talking about something completely different. But thanks for your contribution.
- sprague 4y agoTwitter "has the potential to be a new protocol for the Internet — the notifications and identity protocol; unlike every other protocol, though, this one would be owned by a private company." You could build the ultimate DeFi/Sci/Anything on this. If Twitter does it, there's no particular reason to go blockchain, but if they did it would solve the identity problem in a big way.
