Methylisothiazolinone (MI) is a preservative that along with its similarly named counterpart MCI has become popular as other preservatives are replaced.
For example, bottle fashionably labeled ‘parabens-free’ may be more likely to cause allergy if they instead use MCI and/or MI which have for several years been among top offenders all categories of chemicals for allergic contact dermatitis. whereas the frequency of parabens allergy is low [1] but it has had bad press.
Congratulations to the author on finding the likely culprit!
