So, instead of HN commenters to ask Florida offer evidence that these math books contain CRT (whatever that even means here) people go off on the typical tangents. Let’s get some facts straight: Florida is banning books, blaming it on CRT, and not offering proof. They could, you know, show the offending pages and texts. The fact that they don’t should tell you something.
- chrismeller 4y agoPlease stop saying they’re “banning books” because they’re not approving textbooks. That’s hyperbole and isn’t helpful.
- xphilter 4y agoPlease explain how its hyperbole. If it’s not approved for the school…are teachers allowed to use it? If they’re not allowed to use it, isn’t it banned? Or are you saying because private citizens can buy it at home it’s not banned? If the later, would you be fine with me saying “banning teachers from using these books”?
- chrismeller 4y agoWell if you’re not sure, then here are the simple terms… You say “banning books” and people start thinking about the fascists burning things they disagreed with. This is completely different. All the knowledge is still available in normal books and on the internet, they’re just saying that the math books submitted were not up to their requirements.
- prepend 4y ago> Florida is banning books I don’t think they are banning a book, they just aren’t choosing it for their curriculum. These are very different things.
