Maybe I’m missing some context but YAGNI wouldn’t seem to apply here because if you think you’re building sales as a service, you do need that stuff. What you encountered sounds like a traditional lack of product management focus and/or solid engineering leadership.

I misunderstood a little that the YAGNI principle can apply to both programming and product management. It was not the devs implementing something unnecessary, but the management wanted unnecessary features at the time.
