Well, here's the problem with twitter. I don't even understand what this person is complaining about and, more importantly, I really couldn't care less.

- incomingpain 5y ago>To help you stop worrying about things that don't matter. Kind of you to want to help me. I don't really do social media in general. Elon wanting to fix Twitter made me want to create an account to see if I could detect conservative censorship. No history of anything to judge me against except who I connect to and likes. This is all it takes for twitter to censor. I'm basically going to delete twitter because it's pointless for me to stay on a platform that actively censors me for no valid reason. You're wrong though to say it doesn't matter. This insidious degree of censorship skews democracy in an unhealthy way and effectively breaks understanding. Maintaining peace when understanding is broken can only be done by force temporarily. So for example, Twitter and Canadian media covered the freedom protest in Ottawa as nazi confederates looking to overthrow the government. This was utterly false. Countless international media saw this remarkable story and covered the protest only to find that it was completely false. Our PM reacted to protest as if it were nazi confederates looking to overthrow the government by using a never before used emergency act to crush a peaceful protest. He seized people's bank accounts who werent even involved beyond being a donor. After he pulled the trigger he realized the huge mistake he made and has been touring the world talking about how he supports democracy. Damage is done, I don't see how Canadian society heals from this in the current state.
- dazc 5y agoOK, we all know censorship is happening but I'll rephrase my comment as current twitter users don't care. You are shouting into a void, as things stand. To the specific point about Canadian society, all I will say is that I live in a country that had a Prime Minsiter called Tony Blair and despite everything he did, he is still alive and well and totally convinced that he was right about everything.
- pstuart 5y agoAny time I hear complaints about "the other side" being bad without recognition of failures of "their side" I can't help but dismiss that as petulance. The "freedom" protest was an anti-vax protest, no? I get the problem with being subjected to a mandated medical treatment but that's also balanced by a less than respected take on the anti-vax movement in general (IMHO being anti-science and anti-reason). And as to censorship, there's some speech which is not healthy for society and should not be promoted. How that is done is a delicate and dangerous dance but to engage on that subject without acknowledging that issue is disingenuous at best. Edit: I'll show a case of where "liberals" (a group that I would be lumped into) are wrong: cases where college students block access to speakers they disagree with. Wrong wrong wrong. My point remains that not ever admitting fault is being dishonest -- lies of omission are still lies.

My side has never been in power. Cant really have failures if you've never gotten into power. Suppose we could discuss failing to win an election but alas. >The "freedom" protest was an anti-vax protest, no? No. It was simply anti-mandates. It was highly successful in eliminating most mandates. > I get the problem with being subjected to a mandated medical treatment but that's also balanced by a less than respected take on the anti-vax movement in general (IMHO being anti-science and anti-reason). That wouldn't be a fair characterization. For 2 years there wasn't a freedom protest. When much of europe and the USA had dropped mandates, Canada had actually gone the other direction and increased restrictions. The key catalyst being a new mandate that put significant number of antivaxxers out of a job. >And as to censorship, there's some speech which is not healthy for society and should not be promoted. How that is done is a delicate and dangerous dance but to engage on that subject without acknowledging that issue is disingenuous at best. If twitter quietly banned every tweet that just says racial slurs for example. Nobody would ever hear about it, if someone shows me they got banned because they said nothing but a racial slur. I would ignore them. In fact all the twitter alternatives do filter racial slurs and such. There is no 'not healthy for society' That's not what I showed is happening. I never said racial slurs. In fact I never said anything wrong at all. It is by mere association that I am punished. This is intentionally done.
