They Said Foundation Couldn't Be Filmed, and It Still Hasn't Been
- listless 5y ago“ Changing characters’ genders and ethnicities is a must for modern times—there were virtually no female characters in Asimov’s early books—and, of course, it doesn’t affect the story in the slightest.” The fact that this is thrown out like it’s just objective truth makes me sad. When do we get beyond this? When do we get back to it being about the story and not about us?
- darthrupert 5y agoI also wonder when we are going to move beyond being so amazingly dramatic about contemporary artistic decisions in films and art in general.
- DamnYuppie 5y agoThey don’t feel artistic they feel like political pandering.
- Tagbert 5y agoAnd the insistence on retaining what amounts to prejudices of an earlier age feels like a different kind of pandering.
- antifa 5y ago> TV audiences would, understandably, have a hard time getting invested in a show where the entire cast and conflict changes every episode. Do Anthology series generally perform bad? > Changing characters’ genders and ethnicities is a must for modern times—there were virtually no female characters in Asimov’s early books—and, of course, it doesn’t affect the story in the slightest. But it is good for marketing, women want to feel represented and bigots need imaginary problems to rant on YouTube about, effectively free advertising. > The first two episodes of Foundation just began streaming on Apple TV+. Single episodes will drop weekly thereafter. I'm confused, did the author get special access to episodes 3+, or is this review based on the first 2 episodes? Overall, I can see an original storyline based on the same universe turning out better. I like the idea of a high tech Roman empire falling, and I'm also a Warhammer 40k fan. I haven't watched the series yet, it might stay on the backburner a long time if no one I trust endorses it.
