Dreams Are More Real Than Anyone Thought (2021)
- Comevius 4y agoThis is piss poor article featuring quantum mysticism. It's main argument is that dreams can't be the reason of randomly firing neurons (no one said that), it must be our ability to control space and time with our minds, since in quantum physics observations change the outcome, therefore we are the creators of the Universe. Or you know even when sleeping and being in an altered state of consciousness much of our brain circuitry is active and working. Your entire body is working, since not sleeping creates not just the feeling of tiredness, but a lot of otherwise unnecessary maintenance work.
- atian 4y agoEMF activity.
- isaacfrond 4y agoThe article is a summary of 'The Grand Biocentric Design: How Life Creates Reality' by Robert Lanza. From a Amazon review: Physician Lanza is the new Deepak Chopra. I diagnosis he suffers from physics envy. And math insufficiency. The book is a tossed salad of 'mind', 'consciousness,' 'wavefunction collapse', 'decoherence', and every complex or unsolved issue in science. His argument is mindbogglingly anthropocentric. For humans who like to feel important, and eternal, 'biocentrism' is made for you.
- teekert 4y agoThanx, exactly what I expected from the title. No need to read this one :)
- chimen 4y agoWoowoo shit that is totally unfit for a HN front page. "Physician Lanza is the new Deepak Chopra" they say: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27ZnxgOIqX8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27ZnxgOIqX8 When in doubt just specify the word "quantum" or...put "written in Rust" in the title.
- bigDinosaur 4y agoDreams are, indeed, written in Rust.
- teekert 4y agoRust is the word for rest in my language so, there is that kernel of truth there ;)
- felixyz 4y agoHahaha "written in Rust" is the HN equivalent of "draws on X and quantum mechanics". (No offense to Rust obvs, nor to quantum mechanics.)
- thom 4y agoOur experience of waking reality is extremely well fit to the universe and generalises very well, however much you want to argue it isn’t in and of itself ‘real’. Dreams may reuse many of the same underlying cognitive mechanisms but there is very little to learn about the outside world from the memory and logic of dreams, and implying the two experiences are somehow equal isn’t very useful or interesting.
- drewcoo 4y ago> During dreams we experience an awesome occurrence: the ability of the mind to turn pure information into a dynamic multidimensional reality What do I experience when I'm awake, then? Because I could swear that I must be turning data into multidimensional reality. As for the rest, any not terribly advanced psychology is indistinguishable from woo.
