Brick and mortar stores couldn't keep mainstream faire stocked before the pandemic. The selection is garbage: Twenty different kinds of chunky marinara but zero vodka sauce. Three aisles of cola but no ginger beer. Product variants suddenly stop being sold at all, because of cybernetic market pressure.
If it's even slightly niche, it's not found locally.
Clothing retailers are the worst offender. They stock shelves and shelves of XXXXXXL but no mediums. So I have nowhere to go for my clothes but online.
There's not enough emphasis on minimal packaging, demo ready products. For me the primary advantage of brick and mortar should be the ability to hold the item in meat space and evaluate it there. But the lack of demo units collapses the advantage of brick and mortar over online sales.
Besides daily groceries, I get the majority of my stuff online out of necessity.
