Ask HN: How do people follow blogs/personal websites nowadays?
I'm currently working on my own personal website/blog, and wanted to get a feel for where everyone's eyes are nowadays.
How do you follow blogs & personal websites? Via RSS? Twitter? Newsletters? Bookmarks? What if someone doesn't use RSS/Twitter/Newsletters?
How often do you visit the sites themselves and poke around (ie to discover things that aren't shared on social media or don't show up on RSS)?
- danamit 4y agoEither the 5-6 blogs I remember on top of my head that I visit like once a year and check all the new stuff they posted. Or when I stumble upon a blog when googling something.
- rkagerer 4y agoNone of the above. I go to them and click (either paste URL or google it).
- yuppie_scum 4y agoJust follow the content creators on Twitter and they’ll notify when they post something
- asdfqwertzxcv 4y agoRSS is preferred, followed by an email newsletter. Anything else and I'll visit the site manually if and when I remember. Requiring me to follow a blog's content announcements on a platform I don't use is a recipe for losing me as a potential fan. So you either need to be everywhere or nowhere. There's not much middle ground there. When setting up a blog, an RSS feed should be built into most options or easy to add.
