Ugh, I wish people writing these articles knew something about cars:
> Luckily, the brakes still worked, something surprising in a car where even the glove box is opened electronically.
This is entirely unsurprising. Do there even exist mass market cars where brakes are completely by wire?
- rntn 5y agoYeah, as disquieting as the reported screen failure was - and as upsetting as the Tesla response seems, that bit of snark about the brakes should not have made it past any decent editor.. "Brake power assist unit means a device installed in a hydraulic brake system that reduces the amount of muscular force that a driver must apply to actuate the system, and that, if inoperative, does not prevent the driver from braking the vehicle by a continued application of muscular force on the service brake control." https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/49/571.135 https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/49/571.135

- sp332 5y agoWell you can't open the rear doors with a dead battery, so there's a precedent for Tesla making safety-critical features dependent on a working electrical system.
