Sounds pretty simple to me. Why are these people so adamant about not showing the world how Twitter decides what deserves signal boosting?

Why are these people so adamant about not showing the world how Twitter decides what deserves signal boosting?
- _aavaa_ 5y agoA) A good hunk of the article is dedicated to arguing that the people Twitter don’t understand why their algorithm chooses one tweet over another. B) Even if they do release the entirety of the algorithm, that doesn’t mean anything is going to get better. Likely it will get worse. The scourge of SEO optimization is already having detrimental impacts on finding good information. Imagine the kind of garbage we’ll have to sift through if the people gaming the system are able to see exactly what the system is.
- arrakis2021 5y ago“You wouldn’t understand it, it’s too complicated” is how pseudo-intellectuals have been telling people to shut up for thousands of years. I don’t buy it. Let’s put that to the test. 2. I’ve been doing SEO for 20 years. Nobody knows how Google works and yet we continue to game it, and Google continues to reward us. PR has been a black box algo for years. It gets 500+ updates a year and despite countless failed attempts at reverse engineering it has remained very much game-able. Not sure how this is an argument at all, or for what.
- _aavaa_ 5y agoThe argument isn't "you wouldn't understand it" but rather "we don't understand it since we're using a giant neural network" 2. My argument is that "as bad as things are now, they will get much worse if people don't have to even do the reverse engineering and Twitter (Google) simply hand them the instructions for how their system works (and therefore how to game it)".
