I have been using the first edition of the M1 from work for development and it’s magical compared to the old i7 Intel. It almost never spins the fan, even with IntelliJ IDEA cranking up with Docker full speed. I recently purchased the M1 Pro for private use and the battery life on that thing is insane. 16 inch screen running VS Code, Docker, Elixir, Erlang and Chrome while lasting hours with no charge and able to use it in my lap without a sweat. It is incredible.
