Ask HN: Which browser consumes less CPU for day to day use, Chromium or Firefox?
- urlwolf 4y agoI'm on linux with a powerful GPU, if that matters. I noticed that I spend quite some time every day finding and killing tabs that hit the CPU. It's becoming a distraction to my actual productive work: I'm dual tasking. The fans tell me when there's one tab stuck. It's very often the case. Why is the web so complex that so many sites need so much CPU/GPU power? What can you do about it, other than navigating with JS off?
- maverick74 4y agoThe question is just one: Are you one of those guys that cares about microseconds? No? Stick to Firefox!
- robthebrew 4y agochrome is a nightmare. Let's just accept the fact. Move on.

- Shadonototra 4y agochromium, https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Firefox-95-Chrome-97 https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Firefox-... faster in most if not all benchmarks, therefore will require much less power for your day to day tasks
- maverick74 4y agomuch is bit subjective... I don't mind waiting an extra couple of second if with that I can avoid that google crap...
- kb9 4y agoOpera FTW
- sylware 4y agommmmh... links? lynx? netsurf? (sarcasm)
