A slice of life: table partitioning in PostgreSQL databases
- necovek 5y agoAny discussion of partitioning in Postgres which doesn't start with partial indexes (which go a long way toward the same performance results without all the complexity) is missing to educate the reader on proper steps to achieve performance in PG. For exactly the same conditions you'd partition a table, consider creating partial indexes on them. And sure, there are cases where partial indexes simply don't do the job, but it'd be good to highlight those as reason to go to partitioning.
