I havent seen it handled in the UK, but the backup industry isnt handling it either from what I've seen. I think the regulators will view it as it needs to deleted from backups, but the backup software industry doesnt really make it easy to delete stuff from said backups. It could be done because individual file & mailbox restores exist so if they can identify what needs to be restored, they could just as easily delete it.
