Apple's App Tracking crackdown estimated to cost Facebook another $13B
- khaledh 4y agoGood.
- tikimcfee 4y ago> First, we may be moving in to a recession. Ah, yes. A perfect opportunity to continue spending an incredible sum of money advertising and tracking individuals and their habits in ways they don't want in an effort to increase your overall revenue stream amounts. How. Just please, someone explain to me how we move passed this part of human/technology interactions. I hate, with every part of my being, this world where - somehow - this _entire discussion_ about ad tracking is normalized. That "the ad industry" is normalized. When do we get to live in a world where we can stop advertising things? Why can't we just focus our attentions, talents, and capabilities on building things that let people find things _they_ decide they want? Ya know. Like searching for things... quite a concept. The worst part is this entire website is designed to show people the latest in High Investing, Fast Track technology companies, people sharing their success stories about increasing revenues and streams by X dollars because of hip new tool Z that grabs attention in new horrifying ways.. Just... ew. I used to love technology and science a lot. Working for a decade in this industry and seeing article after article about how X is going to lose Y billions and realizing nothing about the cause or effect of those relationships are things I could ever hope to control in my life has destroyed my will to just be here. /rant or something.
- duxup 4y agoTracking across sites by an app is worth $13B?
- skinnymuch 4y agoWasn’t Snap not effected by it because of them having a diff ad focus than FB? Is Google not affected by this? I can see how they aren’t outside Youtube. Pinterest and LinkedIn missing. LinkedIn is a massive revenue source (and possible profit puppy) No matter, $13B seems like a ton. Seems too much.
