Cisco's Webex phoned home audio telemetry even when muted
- mikece 4y agoAnd people think I'm crazy for using an external mic that requires phantom power to work and turning off phantom power as my "don't let my computer listen to me" fail-safe. (I presume Webex is not one of the apps that will make use of any/all mics on my computer and switch to the built-in laptop mic when I electrically disable my mic while the USB audio interface is still plugged in and selected as the default?)
- rohan_ 4y agoNothing to see here: "Cisco is aware of this report, and thanks the researchers for notifying us about their research," said a Cisco spokesperson. "Webex uses microphone telemetry data to tell a user they are muted, referred to as the 'mute notification' feature. Cisco takes the security of its products very seriously, and this is not a vulnerability in Webex."
