How would yield signs would be better for pedestrians and pedestrian safety?

  Perhaps by making it clear to the pedestrian that they should confirm the vehicles are stopping before stepping into the road? I will never trust a vehicle no matter how much the law and signage is in my favor - I will see it stop before I move.
