Online subscriptions to The Economist cost twice as much in NZ as the US. Why?

- huitzitziltzin 4y agoThis is called third degree price discrimination. It is a pervasive feature of economic life. Other degrees of price discrimination include second (harder to solve and more interesting!) and first (easy to solve but not so easy to implement in the real world). The author wanted a “supply and demand explanation” - that’s it.
- mr_toad 4y agoThat’s not a full explanation. If it was the only factor then richer countries would pay more than poorer ones. It doesn’t explain some of the anomalous results, such as Pakistan paying way more than India.
- zhiyanfoo 4y agoThe Economist used to have the same pricing for its digital and print editions. So its current pricing might be a vestige of that.
