It's crime rate is no worse than a place like Arizona, where I live. If you think about it critically, it's similar to the manufactured panic around bail reform in New York. The data shows it is working, but the police / entrenched folks are putting a lot of propaganda / money into reversing it. There are always going to be loud folks proclaiming the end of times, especially when things change. And especially when there's money involved (policing has boatloads of cash involved, they don't want to see things change).
