Interesting, looks like my original estimate that they were trying to restore each customer individually a backup wasn't even that far off. Still odd that they didn't have any tools in place to help them with it. Only having a way to restore an entire backup is only useful for disaster recovery, it's nigh useless to correct mistakes.
