Interesting. I remember a discussion from a few years ago where it was proposed to use water lines to get broadband cables into Berlin city houses. The issue was/is that it is really expensive to dig up the side of the house, make a hole and seal it up again. The proposal asked to use the main water pipe to run the cable through the wall. This proposal was put down because of fear to contaminate the water. I shared these negative feelings even today. But I wondered why they didn’t propose the sewage pipes? My guess was that the money saved in the process of getting the cable into the houses will be overshadowed by the running costs of maintaining this workaround. This is all from fuzzy memory from about 10 years ago. I’m not sure about all them details.
