Ages of South Koreans to Change with Plans to Eliminate 'Korean Age'
- wodenokoto 5y ago> This is because the nine months a child spends in the womb — rounded up to one year — is counted as the first year of the child's life, per the system. I always just assumed it was for the same reason as Jesus was born in year 1 AD - e.g., I assumed it was a system introduced before zero. Anyway, it's a interesting and funny quirk about Koreans. For me it doesn't cost anything, so I am sad to see it go, but I am sure it will save a lot of people a lot of confusion, so who am I to complain?
- whitesilhouette 5y agoSlightly off topic (and not to nitpick your anecdote), but Jesus is generally believed to be born sometime between 6 and 4 B.C. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_of_birth_of_Jesus https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_of_birth_of_Jesus
