It’s important to find things in common with people on a human level. Hobbies or other special interests are good for this. My advice is to simply not think about work outside of work and build friendships from other common interests. Also, social class comparisons aren't helpful. A mechanic is smart, and in their eyes a person who can’t change their own oil isn’t.
