Peter Thiel: “ESG is just a hate factory, it's a factory for naming enemies"
- jackallis 5y agoHe just sounds so ANGRY, boderline vindictive. Especially the comment on Warren Buffet.
- quantified 5y agoIs he naming enemies?
- qualudeheart 5y agoBuffet was my idol growing up but Thiel has good critiques.

- IAmEveryone 5y agoThis is like taking ten COVID tests, one after another, and declaring they must be broken when they all come back positive.
- tonetheman 5y agodear lord who writes this garbage. WTF is ESG I have now read two articles and neither of them define it. Though since Thiel does not like it ... it must be something that is positive and not something like his kind, that wants to drink blood of children.
- warning26 5y agoFor anyone trying to figure out what ESG stands for, it's this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental,_social_and_corporate_governance https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental,_social_and_corp... TL;DR: Environmental groups say crypto is bad for the environment, crypto person gets angry about that
- kirsebaer 5y agoNon-paywall sources also covered this speech by Thiel: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/apr/08/peter-thiel-paypal-founder-tirade-gerontocracy-bitcoin https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/apr/08/peter-thi...
- monkeydreams 5y ago'ESG is a hate factory, one can always just buy large acreages in remote countries to escape all three.'
- freddybobs 5y ago"The outspoken investor likened environmental, social and governance policies to the Chinese Communist Party" Interesting choice "Chinese communist party". I mean really? How does [ESG](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental,_social_and_corporate_governance https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental,_social_and_corp...), what on earth has that to do with the communist party. Well known for their social and corporate governance? Also from Thiel * His vindictive taking down of [Gawker](https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2018/02/hogan-thiel-gawker-trial/554132/ https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2018/02/hogan-t...) * Billionaire Republican donor Peter Thiel is bankrolling election conspiracists and primary challengers against Republicans [more](https://www.salon.com/2021/10/15/peter-thiel-bets-on-the-far-right-tech-tycoon-spending-millions-to-bankroll-trump-wing-of/ https://www.salon.com/2021/10/15/peter-thiel-bets-on-the-far...) * [Funding Trump](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/14/technology/republican-trump-peter-thiel.html?referringSource=articleShare https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/14/technology/republican-tru...) * Leaving Facebook to concentrate on [Trump support/funding](https://newrepublic.com/article/165404/peter-thiel-china-midterms-2022 https://newrepublic.com/article/165404/peter-thiel-china-mid...). * Some more about leaving [meta](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-02-07/peter-thiel-to-leave-meta-board-to-pursue-trump-political-agenda https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-02-07/peter-thi...) * An article about his ['philosophy'](https://perell.com/essay/peter-thiel/ https://perell.com/essay/peter-thiel/) I mean it doesn't even make any sense for a gay man. Hasn't he noticed Trumps, and more recent GOP LGBTQ take? Is it the ends justify the means? Is it, it only applies to the small people? Who knows. Thiel is a 'libertarian' on steroids. Again - that doesn't make much sense with the Trump or current GOP (it may have made more sense in the past). He must be okay with some serious cognitive dissonance.
- jleyank 5y agoRich people unable to do what they want, Tyranny! Powerful people unable to do what they want, Tyranny! They want to be able to do what they want when they want. To be fair, they also want everybody else to be able to do what they (ie, the rich/powerful) want when they want. EDIT: and I really hope one can make more money mining bitcoin than, say, smelting aluminum.
