Can Serverless replace Kubernetes?
- sascha_sl 5y agoKubernetes is not meant to be used directly. Kubernetes is an API for building platforms, including serverless ones. Knative is in fact the backing technology for CloudRun. Sometimes it can make sense to run K8s yourself, given sufficient scale and/or need for the wide feature set it offers. But there should always be a team in between Kubernetes and your developers. Preferably a platform engineering one, but maybe also an ops one if you deploy a lot of off the shelf software or legacy apps. If you just want your software to run somewhere, pay a PaaS. If you want or need more control over costs and processes in your org, Kubernetes is an excellent tool to build on.
