As an entreaty to choose software effectively I can endorse this post.
This IS about understanding the inevitable compromises every distribution makes (e.g. security vs performance) and choosing what fits your needs.
This is NOT about trying them all until you like something.
- neogodless 5y agoHow do you understand "the inevitable compromises every distribution makes"? Aren't there hundreds to choose from? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Linux_distributions https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Linux_distributions
- spacemanmatt 5y agoBy compromises every distribution makes, I am referring to cases where one choice precludes another, and any distribution can choose just one. Security costs performance. It's hard to support 3d hardware with pure open-source drivers. Most distributions are fairly up-front about their project values so you can understand which way they will make these compromises.
