What about policing? From the video, it is clear that Kim Potter clearly made a mistake when she pulled her gun instead of taser. Where do you draw the line? Are some fatal mistakes acceptable while others are not simply because of the societal opinion of the job?
- giraffe_lady 5y agoYes different powers have different considerations how could it be otherwise? For the police specifically, they have willingly entered a role that carries risks of violence, ostensibly in the name of public safety. They have training to understand and mitigate those risks. And so the burden on them to prevent violence should be very high. Similarly, a volunteer soldier who kills an adversary in war may not be culpable for murder but they can't plausibly claim self defense either. The expectations and burdens that people carry highly depend on their powers and the decisions that led them there. The mistake potter made wasn't drawing the taser instead of the gun. It was in believing that, if one of them was to get fucked up, she had the right to make it the other guy. She was the only one of them that had consented to violence, by joining the police force.
